Puerto Vallarta Municipal Animal Shelter Stats

Since June 2017, when we began meticulously tracking our data, the Puerto Vallarta Municipal Animal Shelter has been a haven for 1169 dogs and 487 cats. Each one arrives with a story – some left heartbreakingly at our doorstep, others rescued by the Green Patrol from situations of abuse, neglect, or after causing bites. Many arrive injured or desperately ill, found wandering the streets of Puerto Vallarta. Below, you'll find a comprehensive overview of their journeys, from those who found loving forever homes to those we sadly had to euthanize due to health or safety concerns. And, most importantly, you'll meet the hopefuls—the dogs and cats currently waiting for their second chance. Please open your heart and consider giving one of these deserving animals a loving home, especially those who have been waiting patiently for far too long.

Notes:

"Adopted" encompasses a range of happy endings! It means an animal has found a loving forever home, either locally or internationally, been reunited with their original family, or transitioned to a partner organization like SPCA. Please note: Animals currently in foster care are not yet counted as adopted—they're still on their journey to finding their perfect match. Breed designations are based on visual approximation and may not reflect purebred status.
